Hospital goes camping!

What happens when the Waiouru camp hospital shuts up shop and the staff all go kayaking — like they did last week? A tented hospital from Linton' s 2nd Field Hospital was erected and territorial and regular force soldiers took over all of the medical responsibilities for Waiouru Military Camp. Patients admitted to the 25bed ward in the tent hospital had a fairly comfortable time according to W02 Murray Robinson, who has been a territorial soldier for 23 years. Turn to Page 2

FROMPAGEl "The weather' s been very kind, fine and warm. When the weather is bad the ward is (generally) full and conditions inside the tent would be fairly unpleasant with water dribbling down the sides and getting under the floor, making it smell," he said. Territorial soldiers have been conducting their annual field exercises in the Waiouru training area over the last week or so, but casualties have been light. Even when conditions are unpleasant the tented hospital remains as sterile as possible. "In the past the 'bug' counts, even though we're under canvas, have been much better than a public hospital," W02 Robinson said.
