Change of teachers at Ohakune Kindergarten
Sharon Wilton is now the head teacher at the Ohakune Kindergarten, taking over the position from Yvonne Triggell. Sharon holds a diploma of kindergarten teaching and has taught at Ohakune for nearly three years. Prior to that she spent seven and a half years teaching in Tokoroa, Wanganui and Patea. Sharon says she is pleased to be the head teacher of such a well-equipped kindergarten. 'The great outdoor environment and multitude of activities inside the kindergarten are a reflection of the support from the community and parents," she said. Filling Sharon' s past position of teacher is relieving teacher Leigh Brannigan. Leigh holds a diploma of teaching and she has just completed her Bachelor of
Education degree. Leigh went to Ohakune Primary School and Ruapehu College and it was a stint of work experience at the Ohakune Kindergarten while she was at Ruapehu College that clinched her decision to become a kindergarten teacher. Although she said "I have known ever since I was little that I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher." Leigh plans to apply for the position of teacher when it is advertised. "The kindy supported me throughout my training and I would like to give back to them the benefit of my qualifications." The Ohakune Kindergarten runs two groups that each have two morning and two afternoon sessions each week. There is also a play group where parents stay with their children, on Wednesday mornings.
