Pipiriki rubbish

Pipiriki is to get a rubbish transfer station, at the present refuse pit site. One other site was considered, at a metal stockpile area, but this was rejected because it was inside the Whanganui National Park'. Representatives of Pipiriki Incorporated supported the refuse pit site. Waimarino Community Board members were told at their last meeting when they considered the propoal, that river users would also be able to use the facility , and asked if the Department of Conservation would be contributing to the cost of the station. Suzienne Slegers, environmental asset manager, said it may be possible to come to an agreement with DoC over maintenance of the site. A Wanganui contractor who covers the River Road will empty the bins at the station, as part of a contract with the Wanganui District Council.
