Ode to the BNZ
• The Bank of New Zealand came in to stay And has been in Raetihi 90 years, many a day. We all mortgaged and borrowed, invested and loaned, Vast sums of money transacted and owed. For 90 odd years the tellers did count, I hate to consider the total amount. Now corporate planners have fiddled with fate They're closing it down, the 29th the date. We have so little time to say our goodbyes, Toast them with beers or cry, tears to our eyes. 'It's over Raetihi', times have changed so they say And even your Bank isn't wanted, not today! What happened to scruples, both moral and just? Rural communities - nah!, screw them into the dust! Who financed the bank's bungles, who coughed up the dough? Small business and people, as rural folk know. Whose conscience is pricked, whose service has suffered? Let's cancel accounts, for the corporates are duffers. A facility gone, from our town plan By methods so stealthy, it's all underhand. But BNZ's owned by aliens from Aussie That's why they've done it, slippery and dodgey. They don't give a monkey or nary a toss, Just let 'em be big sho.ts.and show all whose boss! But small town people in Kiwi I'm told Are ever so crafty and often are bold. To protest at such action takes lots of resolve Let's close our accounts, this matter to solve. As BNZ eloses and sets itself packing We should get in the act and give 'em a sacking!
