Waimarino golf
Waimarino Golf Club hosted its annual Christmas cheer golf match on Sunday 10 December. Players from Taupo, Turangi, Waiouru and Taihape attended. Alan and Karen Murdie, from Ohakune New World supermarket were the sponsors, with plenty of Christmas turkeys, hams, chickens, wines and bubbly up for grabs as prizes. Results: Seniors-bestgross71 points Andrew Murdie, top three point scores C Nightingale 43, N Bateman 42, G Johnson 40; Intermediate - L Akapita 45, A Hepi 43, B Henry 42; Juniors - K Wells 47, D Blackburn 46, R Brown 44; Ladies - V Johns 45, S Lind 43, M Black 42. The Waimarino Ladies Golf Championship was held in October. The winners of each championship event were: Silver over 36 holes Carol Leary; Bronze over 36 holes Lyn Drinkwater; Pritt Trophy Pania Mowat winner over 18 holes; Bronze 2 championship over 18 holes Sarah Lind. Footnote: Pania Mowat received her handicap recently and is available for someone to interview her for an article about her newfound golfing ability.
