Raetihi School prize giving packs the hall

Raetihi School' s hall was filled to overflowing with families and friends, probably the largest number of relatives seen at prize giving for some years, last Friday 15 December. Grant Fountain, the school' s principal, addressed the assembly and spoke about the need to continue to improve the standard of learning, especially in reading and writing. More effort is needed from both parents and teachers, if the pupils are to reach these goals. In presenting the Ruapehu College awards, college principal Ralph Lane said Raetihi can be proud of the efforts of the teachers in preparing the seniors for college. The pupils in the past have come to the school, well prepared and very well organised, he said. Main prize winners: Written language Kate Woodhouse; Science award Toby Hutchins; Golden Jubilee cup (for the best all round Maori pupil) Linda Grave; Best all round Form Two pupil Damian Manahi; Runner-up dux Toby Hutchins; Citizens award Johnathan Kui; Te Uenuku Taonga (for the highest level of attainment in Tikanga and Te Reo Maori) Julie Imhoff; Ruapehu College awards for academic excellence Kate Woodhouse and Toby Hutchins; Ruapehu College awards for excellence in outdoor education, Linda Grave and Ivan Hall; Dux Kate Woodhouse.
