End-of-year fun at Orautoha

By

Amiria

Teki

Country schools do things differently to most town schools, and Orautoha School showed that at their school prize giving held last Thursday, 14 December. The total community is involved and turns up on the night in full support. This year was no exception, with quite a few Raetihi townspeople there as well. Adding to the different way of doing things, this writer was roped in to perform a skit — Cinderella/Rindercella, along with parents. The children put on anumber of short plays, all with a twist of humour that had the hall in fits of laughter. The children wrote the plays themselves, did all

their own backdrops and made their own costumes and chose their music. Brendon Kavanagh, representing the board of trustees, addressed the school thanking parents and supporters, bringing the community up to date on the school' s year and how it has functioned. He also thanked and congratulated Andrea Nola, the schools' principal for the way in which she has run the school in this, her first year here. Prizes: junior achievement, Jaid Dekker; senior achievement, SarahTod; Sportsmanship,Te Aroha Matoe; Attendance, Nicholas McNie; Most improved participation, Gus Halcron.
