Fie! Field centre funding!
• Sorry DoC but the ratepayers of the district should not be funding your new field centre office at Pipiriki. When a proposal went to the Waimarino Community Board for about $90,000 to build a new office etc for DoC the Board correctly turned down the proposal but accept that the Ruapehu District Council has a responsibility to assist with public toilets and recommended funding for the toilets. My requests for information on proposals at Pipiriki while a community board member resulted in the board being told that negotiations were still taking place and it wasn' t prudent to report until the negotiations are finished. What a load of bumpkin. Twelve months have passed and there's been no up-date on proposals to the community board. We now learn through the press that RDC management are pressing ahead with a proposal but instead of referring it to the community board they are taking the proposal through the back door via the district council marketing unit who now propose to cut the very limited funding that the Raetihi Information Centre gets. Cliff Houston, you have got it all wrong again. The need for public information is far greater in Raetihi than Pipiriki. Come on. Make your proposals public and put them to our community board so that irtformed public consultation and debate can take place.
