Waimarino Golf
They say 'what a difference the day makes'. That was certainly true in the case of Waimarino golfers. Sunday last week golfers had cold rain leaking through their wet weather gear and this weekend the perspiration was dripping off the noses of golfers as they leaned over to putt. Although there was only a small field for the Sunday haggle, with the majority of club members waving the Waimarino flag at Taihape' s Christmas cheer, there were still some good scores recorded. Results: 1 J Martin 43 points; 2 M Black 41 ; 3 T Spry 41 . Nearest the pins, 9 P Goldfinch; 12 T Spry. The lucky number draw was 146, P Brown, (not claimed). Thursday's twilight event continues to grow stewdily with 71 starters last week with a good contingent of new golfers participating. The teams were drawn for the teams events and will start as from this week. Results from Thursday 30 November: Seniors: 1 J Hansen 22; 2 G Creedy 22; 3 D Windle 20; 4 P Goldfinch 20; 5 D Herewini 20. Juniors: 1 G Lind 23; 2 D Blackburn 22; 3 B Hayes 21; 4 J Martin 21; 5 S Gray 20. Ladies; 1 L Todd 25; 2 V Johns 22; 3 K Grimwade 20; 4 H Cranston 20; 5 L Drinkwater 18. Non golfers: 1 D Bishop 23; 2 R Callghan 21; 3 R Stout 19; 4 P Bonham 15; 5 A Wallace 13; 6 1 Fetzer 13; 7 A Arnold 13; 8 R Wetering 13. Footnote: There is a saying in golf that the hole is as big as a bucket. The majority of golfers know this isn't true. But on Thursday Pat Mcllory played the perfect shot on the par three seventeenth.
