Transfer station action
• Come on Chris Ryan, stop being selective and print all the facts, please. I stand by my comment that Council has failed miserably to consult the community. You state that the Waimarino Community Board considered a solid waste management strategy report on 5 May 1994. But you fail to point out part 6.2 of that report states, "The essential part of the project is public consultation and public education". This wasn't the role of the WCB. It was management' s role. Why wasn't this carried out for the Orautoha Transfer Station? Is it because you terminated the employment of Mr Tim Mills who was handling the waste projects? Chris, look again at the minutes of the WCB, 6 October 1994. You state the WCB did not resolve to seek a further report on the matter. Stop playing with words and print all the facts. The minutes state, "The Environmental Asset Manager be asked to complete a report". That clearly was a request from the board. Just because it's not included in the resolutions doesn' t mean the board didn' t ask for it as your letter implies. As for the matter of granting yourself a non-notified consent without consulting the near neighbour, you consider council right, that's your opinion. You would be struggling to find a lawyer who would agree that you are correct. I wonder why the new site was hastily re-instated after development work when the neighbour started to challenge your consent. Why did Council after years of neglect at the old land-fill site reform and re-metal the access track only weeks before planning to close it? Once again mismanagement, Chris, at the ratepayers' expense. Perhaps you can publicly explain why over $50,000 was utterly wasted on the corner and road after Council employed a dump truck that breached heavy traffic regulations and broke up the seal at the confluence of the Orautoha stream with the Manganui-o-Te-Ao River. I could go on, and will if you keep trying to make me your scape-goat for mismanagement and lack of consultation over the Orautoha Transfer Station. Chris, I hope you will be at the meeting you have called in the Orautoha Hall. We all want to know about your new policy of charging trucks to use the Ruatiti Road.
Winston
Oliver,
Orautoha.
