Heartland group re-groups

The Heartland Marketing Group, of which the Ruapehu District Council is a member, met in Napier recently to revisit its strategic plan and ensure that the group' s mission of building visitor growth from international markets was being met. The meeting was facilitated by Scott Oldershaw & Associates who are involved in strategic management. Council marketing manager Bruce Rollinson said it was important that members took a look from the outside of where the group has come over the past two years. "Facilitator Jim Scott, previously the chief executive of Air New Zealand, provided an excellent overview of our direction and allowed us to determine our strategic focus," said Mr Rollinson. "Often you can get too close to the action". Mr Rollinson said it was important that the group had the expertise of Mr Scott to assist in determining its direction. "Although Heartland was a finalist in this year's tourism awards we simply can't afford to rest on our previous efforts," said Mr Rollinson.
