Recruits boss change
Command recently changed over at The Army Depot (TAD) in Waiouru, the place where new recruits are put through basic training and the place that further trains these recruits as junior and senior noncommissioned officers and warrant officers. Lieutenant Colonel Alan Goodwin has taken over the reins from Lieutenant Colonel Dick Cairns, who led TAD for nearly two years and served the New Zealand Army for around 27. Lt Col Cairns said he
will be starting a business in Taupo. "If three and a half million Kiwis can survive without the army, so can I," he laughed; Lt Col Goodwin was previously dean of professional studies at the Military Studies Institute in Waiouru, and was educated at Waiouru Primary School and Ruapehu College. He is married to Kendra and they have three daughters aged 6, 9, and 12. "We' re one of these strange families that quite likes Waiouru," he said.
