Report of a rising ski star
Second in the New Zealand under 13 years skiing championships and fourth junior in the North Island Secondary Schools Skiing Competition are just two achievements that Dominique Scarf attained this year. Dominique is a fourth former at Nga Tawa School in Marton and is doing exceedingly well in her chosen sport. Every weekend Dominique travelled to Mt Ruapehu to train and race, where she trains with the Rossignol Turoa Race Academy and frequently competes in North Island races to gain national points. She is extremely dedicated and feels an intense passion for her skiing. Dominique was born and lived at the base of Mt Ruapehu in Ohakune, where her family is still based. By the age of four
she was already skiing. Her parents, who are also keen skiers, have always supported and helped her to reach her goals. Future Looking into the future, Dominique hopes to continue racing. She enthuses to the idea of one day representing New Zealand in skiing but is also very keen to attain some tertiary qualifications to fall back on. Like many young New Zealand skiers, Dominique says that she has been inspired by Annelise Coberger's successes in skiing. With an increased number of young New Zealanders showing interest in ski racing, Dominique hopes that New Zealand will provide more funding and support for its ski racers in the future. Footnote: this article is contributed by one of Dominique' s fellow pupils.
