Man dies in Ohutu fire

Glenn Te Waaka Wallace, 47, died in the fire that destroyed this house (pictured) at about 3am on Saturday morning. He was the only occupant of the Ohutu Grazing Company house, just east of Rangataua. The house was weil alight when the Ohakune Fire Brigade arrived, after a passer-by sounded the alarm. Police confirmed yesterday that the Wanganui fire safety officer traced the cause of the fire to an iron which had been left on, although speculation that the man may have accidentally turned the iron on instead of a heater has not been confirmed. Several national media teams attended the scene and the news item was shown on the two network news channels. The Bulletin understands the behaviour of one of the TV news teams upset family members. ■■■■■■■■■■■■■
