Pulp golf game a first
Last Saturday saw the inaugural golf challenge match being played at the Waimarino Golf Club between staff from Winstone Pulp International and Pan Pacific Forest Industries Ltd, from in Napier. Some 1 2 players arrived on the day . The weather was excellent and there was a good turn out from staff and their supporters for the "Winstone Warriors versus Pan Pacific Mafia" event. A special trophy for the event was made by Gary Johnson from Waimarino, The wooden trophy is of maire and has a pulp refiner plate attached to it. The game was played in a mixed foursome and included seniors and juniors. The stableford went to Helen Hammond on 44, 1st, WPI. Wayne Ewart, 42 2nd,
Pan Pacific. Ray Brown, 40, 3rd, WPI. B Drinkwater, 39 4th, WPI. The event was organised by Don Robinson and Steve Gray. Sponsors were WPI, Taihape Buses, McCarthy Transport, Waimarino Golf Club. Thanked for their help were Andrew Condon, Tom Spry, Ray Spry, Tom Smith and Dave Jones. Organisers hope the event could include Kinlieth and Kawerau mills. The evening's entertainment included Winstone' s annual Christmas social. About 300 staff and friends attended. The social was held at WPI at Karioi with a live band from Wellington called "Catnip Frenzy". The New Zealand Army, Waiouru, catered the evening.
