New DoC officer for Ohakune

As of last week Henry Reihana has taken over from Karen Grimwade as conservation officer for the Ohakune Field Centre. Henry has come from the Turangi Conservancy where he was conservation officer in charge of concessions and recreation management. Henry says the transition into his new job was very smooth thanks to Karen' s preparation. Being conservation officer in Ohakune involves historic site management, public safety , fire management, the upgrading of tracks with Taskforce Green, maintaining picnic areas at campsites, conservation awareness, new displays at the field centre and the summer nature programme. Henry is lookingforward to running the summer nature programme and hopes that the eruption will act as an incentive for people to .participate. "If the two-kilometre restriction zone is lifted before Christmas we should see lots of people wanting o climb to the Crater Lake."
