Motorsports seeks volunteers

The Motorsport Association have started a volunteer recruitment and training programme i'n conjunction with support from the Hillary Commission, designed to introduce new people into the sport and in particular give training on all aspects of safety. The Motorsport Association conducts a wide range of activities involving motor vehicles and covers such events as racing, rallies, trials, hill climbs, sprints and motorkhanas. Safety is the key to all of these activities and consequently the sport requires a large number of volunteers to assist in the safe running of all events. Motorsport is at present on a growth curve in New Zealand, since the success of Paul Radisich in the British touring cars and Possum Bourne's rallying successes in the highly competitive Asia Pacific Rally championship. Mr Ian Snellgrove, General Manager of the Association, said that at many of the club events whole families were involved oft?i with one member competing and the others assisting in the safe running of the event.
