Goddard Automoti ve Engineering in Ohakune has added a new lube bay aiming to speed up service times and cut labour costs. They have just installed a 3.5-tonne 4-post hydraulic hoist to cater for a larger range of vehicles includingcars and light commercials. As part of Goddard Automotive Engineering' s ongoing development the workshop now employs three mechanics as well as an apprentice mechanic and an office and parts manager. Warren Hyslop of Ohakune is the new apprentice. Although while there are now no longer actual hours set down for apprenticeships, the 40 or so subject units Warren will have to complete for his apprenticeship will take him up to two years. Another new staff member is John Scobie who is a A-

Grade mechanic how has recently moved to Ohakune from 'the other side' where he servivced mountain transport and ran the Chateau Garage & Service Station. He is originally from Bathurst and served his time at Cesnoch Maitland in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. Kelly Nicolson has been working as a mechanic with Goddards for the past 3 years, with chief mechanic and proprietor Ben Goddard heading the team. The office and spare parts manager is Stu Magee. Ben Goddard told the Bulletin that, in addition to the new hoist facility, the workshop now stocks supplies of Castrol oils and are able to supply bulk users such as local market gardeners. "We also stock one of the largest ranges of Fram Filters for both cars and heavy commerical vehicles" said Mr Goddard.
