Taumarunui seniors visit Raetihi
A large group of senior citizens from Taumarunui visited Raetihi for their annual jaunt recently. About 44 people were welcomed by Raetihi 's senior citizen Eva Grossart. The gathering took place in the Waimarino club where lunch was served by a group of women from Rotary and catered by Johnny Nation from Ohakune. Merilyn Feickert entertained in the afternoon. Eva Grossart paid a brief tribute to the late Betty Barrett, who passed away recently. Mr Barrett was the secretary for senior citizens of Raetihi for 13 years. Mrs Grossart said she didn' t quite realise until now just how much Betty was missed, that she was the kind of person that did a lot behind the scenes. The club recognises birthdays of members each month and some of the "young 21 year olds at heart" were people like Pat Stanish, Marg McCoubrie whose birthday it was that day. Taumarunui's president Shirley Burn thanked Raetihi for their welcome, Raetihi usually pays a return visit around March each year. Raetihi 's club meets every 3rd Wednesday of each month.
