Raetihi dominates cross country

by

The weather, though overcast and dull on Monday 9 October, held off at least until things got underway at Orautaha School. Andrea Nola, principal of Orautaha School welcomed parents, teachers and pupils from Waiouru, Ohakune, Pipiriki and Raetihi Schools and without too much ado, took the competitors and helpers around thecourse and got the races underway in good time. The junior school five and six year-old boys and girls started at about the half-way mark and naturally their course was somewhat shorter. The rain soon chased the kids along but didn't stop them from competing in good spirit. As one girl said, "it' s great when it' s fine but then again the rain keeps you cool while you're run-

ning around." Because of the poor weather, there wasn't the opportunity to present certificates but it is expected that each school will set aside a day during their own school' s assembly or end of year prize-giving. The best three to six pupils from each of the school' s age group, went to compete at the Hunterville School sports last Friday. The Orautaha School had food stalls for lunches and a meat raffle as a fund-raiser for the school.
