Who got what...

Weston Kirton won 1438 votes in Saturday's local body election. He was 283 votes ahead of southern Ruapehu candidate Bob Peck. The other five candidates in order of vote counts were Graeme Cosford with 868, Keith Chapple with 693, June Baker with 643, Joe Murphy with 483 and Don Lawson with 184. Two, possibly three new councillors will sit round the table when it sits. Warren Francis Horo (1294 votes) takes up positions in the Taumarunui Ward. MarkEbrey won a place on the council table but has stood down (see separate story). Incumbents Graeme Cosford (2042), Irene Dempsey (1982) and Stuart Shaw (2159)

take the other places. Mayoral candidate and incumbent councillor June Baker chose not to stand for a council seat so is now out of the picture, while Joe Murphy and Bill Morrissey were unopposed for the Ohura Ward seats. National Park Ward provides the other new councillor, Stephen Mastrovich (209 votes), while Eddie Turley keeps his place with 197 votes. Dipping out were Ken IVJalcolm (173) and Larry Rogers (106). Waimarino Ward's councillors don't change with John Compton (967), Ellen Gould (695) and Bob Peck (1032) retaining their seats. Other candidates were Justine Adams (531) and Gary Rawnsley (353). Waiouru' s Bobby Vine (279) and Sue Rodger (201 ) retain their seats while challenger Murray Fitchett won 93 votes. The Waimarino Community Board has three new faces, Robert Horne (907 votes), Gary Rawnsley (623) and Doug Bennett (964). Mr Bennett returns to local body politics having retired at the previous elections. The three join incumbents Alf Alabaster (822),RayBerry(995),and Colin Webb (1067). Newcomer Murray Hulbert won 529 votes.
