Rugby tour team chosen
Over a month of inter-corps competition culminated in Waiouru on Sunday with the selection of the New Zealand Army Rugby Football Team that will tour the United Kingdom in November and December. The team was announced after the finals in which the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment team beat a Royal New Zealand Electrical and Mechanical Engineers combination 24 - 13 to take out the Freyberg Cup. In the semi-final the Barbarians made up of minor corps players beat the Royal New Zealand Artillery 23-15 and in the women' s game Waiouru North beat Linton South 24 -0. The 25 men selected for the Army team will tour the United Kingdom to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Victory in Europe and the 50th anniversary of the great 1945/46 'Kiwis' who lost only two games in a 33-game tour. Out of 30 players 17 'Kiwis' went on to wear the All Black jersey for New Zealand. Twelve former Kiwis will tour with the army team.
