Train trip thanks
• As a passenger on 'Merle's Twin Peak Explorer Excursion', I would like to give a huge vote of thanks to Bob Norling and his helpers for the wonderful organisation that was involved with the trip. Everything was 'spot on' and I would also like to pay tribute to the students and attendants who were tireless in their efforts to assist everyone and make the journey so enjoyable. What a long day for the ' workers' , who were on their feet all day! Thank you for your efforts - they were much appreciated. We all particularly enjoyed the hospitality at Whangamomona, a remote, but very friendly and "full-of-heart" settlement. Our party of eight were fortunate to be in the Ngauruhoe carriage, and whilst we were told we were the noisiest, we were a very happy lot. Thanks to the guitarist and leaders of the sing-alongs. We had a great time.

• I would like to voice my appreciation of the excellent organisation by the Main Trunk Rail Ohakune members for the 'Twin Peaks Explorer' trip on 8 October. The day was an outstanding success because the MTRO members, College students and other helpers worked tirelessly and with good humour to make it so.
We passengers were so well looked after with courtesy and consideration, we were able to relax and just enjoy the scenery and company. The late Merle Weller was wellhonoured by such a memorable outing. Thank you, MTRO.

• Dear Mr Nation, I am nine years old and I come from Raetihi. I am on the train with my mum, sister, also nana and grandad from Wanganui. We would like to thank you for helping provide the T aupo carriage and childrens pack. It's been great fun. Thank you

PS The rides made my writing a bit untidy. I've had a wonderful day! • Just a note of thanks and appreciation for the great train trip you people put on yesterday. My wife and I enjoyed it immensely: the trip, the meals, the on-train friendly service, the lot, it was just great. We will be looking forward to similar events in the future,

Thanks to train travellers I wish to convey my thanks to the people of the region for the overwhelming support given to Main Trunk Rail Ohakune.
MTRO is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to the history and preservation of railways in the central North Island region. Our committee work very hard to attain this goal, whilst providing a tourist attraction for the area. It is the support of the community which has helped us achieve so much in such a small amount of time. My heartiest thanks to the people of the region, to those of the committee who organised and helped on the day and to the students of Ruapehu College who dedicated their time to serve on the train. Thanks also to Karlene Hough who works at the BNZ, who provided invaluable assistance. Our next excursion will be mid-March in association with the 'Carnival of Wheels' for a unique steam train ride behind F163, built in 1872, complete with vintage carriages on our 'Champagne Steam Trail' to the Makatote Viaduct and Horopito. Turn the clock back to relax and relive the history of the Main Trunk with us. School children from the district will also have an opportunity to ride to the Hapuawhenua Viaduct and back during our 'Steam Weekend'.
