• Ohakune Police apprehended an Otaki youth who attempted to steal a sweatshirt from the Powderhorn Ski Shop at the Ohakune Junction, on Monday 25 September. The offender faces action by the Police Y outh Aid Section. • Police attended a burglary of a Mangarewa Road, Ohakune, residence on 25 September 1995. Offenders forced entry into the unoccupied property and removed numerous kitchenware itenjs and a microwave. • Police are investigating an assault on a hitch-hiker who accepted a ride from the occupants of a vehicle travelling between Wanganui and Raetihi. The man received minor injuries. Enquiries are continuing. • Ohakune Police arrested a Raetihi man for three driving related offences that occurred on 28 September in Raetihi. He will be appearing in the Ohakune District Court on 12 October to face charges. • A Falcon vehicle was taken from outside the Ruapehu Hotel on 28 September. lt was recovered in another location in Seddon Street later in the day. Police enquiries are continuing. • Police received a number of calls from distressed Raetihi residents who witnessed a dog fight in Seddon Street on Friday 29 September. The owner of one of the offending animals was warned by Police to keep the dog under control. • A quantity of cash was taken from a unit at the Sunbeam Lodge on 29 September while the occupant of the room was absent. Police are investigating the theft. • Offenders broke into HE Webb Motors in Seddon Street, Raetihi, overnight on 1 October 1995. Entry was gained by removing a pane of glass from the main entry to the garage's parts department. Nothing was taken. • A Suzuki Quadrunner motorcycle was taken from an Ohura Road, Raetihi, property on 1 October 1995. Police inquiries into the theft are continuing. • An Ohakune man was arrested for assault and intentional damage following an incident that occurred outside the Hot Lava Nightclub in Ohakune on 19 September 1995. He will be appearing in the Ohakune District Court on 1 2 October. • Ohakune Police warned three local people who were found to be in possession of cannabis, outside the Hot Lava Nightclub in Ohakune on 3 September. • An Ohakune man who was found in possession of a small amount of cannabis at his address was warned by Police. The offence occurred on 14 September. Waiouru • On 12 September a man was stopped on the Desert Road. He is to be prosecuted for allegedly driving at speeds in excess of 150 kilometres an hour. • The next day another complaint from the public resulted in a man being charged with dangerous driving after an overtaking manoeuvre on the Desert Road. • Just before midnight on 14 September a local man was processed and charged with drunken driving. • On 1 6 September another local man choosing to drink and drive had his keys taken off him and was warned. • Earlier that day a head-on collision at Mulvay ' s Corner between a Waiouru and Palmerston North family resulted in moderate injuries, including seatbelt injuries. The Waiouru family was unhurt, Waiouru police reported. • Another drink driver was warned on 17 September. He had his keys removed and received a warning. • A person or persons are being sought for intentional damage to Caltex Waiouru on 18 September. Neon lights and.part of the sewer system were damaged. • At 2am on 22 September a Waiouru female was processed for drunken driving and will be prosecuted. • On 24 September a truck driving north on State Highway 1 lost Ijalf of its load of ply wood and lead ingots. No disruption t6 traffic was reported and Waiouru police are considering laying changes. • On 25 September a man choosing to ignore closed road gates at Turangi was stopped by the Waiouru snow gate and apprehended by police. He will be prosecuted for drinking and driving, but will not be charged for driving over the Desert Road while it was closed. • Looking at the mountain probably caused a man to drive off the Ohakune hill road just out of Waiouru on 26 September. He was warned for careless use of a vehicle. • Also on 26 September two youths in a stolen vehicle were stopped in Waiouru. Police are investigating the Auckland pair's involvement in a crime spree that included six stolen cars, two burglaries, one theft and one theft of goods out of a motor vehicle. Investigations regarding cannabis related offences are continuing. The pair allegedly intended stealing a car from Waiouru, but were cut off by Constable Dale Jenkins who waited in the dark for the pair to walk right up to him. • There was a fatal head-on accident involving a light truck and a car on 27 September five kilometres south of Waiouru. Waiouru police said Harold Richards from Invercargill was killed instantly and the driver of the light truck was flown to Palmerston North hospital with serious leg injuries. The dead man's wife was with him in the accident, but was not injured. • A man suspected of a burglary at Ngamatea House mid-August was arrested on 28 September and will also face cannabis related charges.
