Social rugby matches in Raetihi draw good crowds
The Whangarei Golden Oldies Rugby Club arrived in Raetihi on Thursday 14 September at the invitation of The Ruapehu Rascals Golden Oldies Rugby Club. It was an action-packed weekend for them, taking on more than just rugby. They started with skiing, followed by rugby at around five o'clock that night. The fun game of rugby was for about 20 minuets each way. The Whangarei boys thought that they scored the most tries and Ruapehu Rovers maintained they were the winners, so the referee probably made the right decision — a draw. Everyone converged on the Ruapehu Hotel for an evening meal and a karaoke was organised for the night's entertainment. The next day some of the visitors went jet boating from Pipiriki up to Manganui o Te Ao, some went to Waiouru and others had a round of golf. More karaoke was on the agenda on Saturday night, with most having a shot at showing off their vocal talents. Ruapehu Rascals were to travel to Christchurch last weekend for their big trip away. Meanwhile the Winstones International Pulp Mill and Pinex Tangiwai social clubs got together last Sunday to play a game of rugby. A large crowd gathered in support and by the look of things, the serious players weren't too serious and a lot of fun was had by all, while giving some of the guys an opportunity to show their skills. Once again no one seemed to take too much notice of the score.
