The Montana Ohakune Spring Ski Fest '95 And the Ravensdown Carrot Carnival
This year's Carrot Festival float parade looks set to be a real winner with a $500 first prize as an incentive to people with float flair. The prize is donated by the Carrot Growers Association. The parade will form up at the Big Carrot and set off at 1.00pm, marshalled by the Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade. lt will wind its way to and then around the shopping streets, ending up in Goldfinch Street for judging. As well as floats there will be marching girls and a pipe band, carrot machinery, the Ulysses Motor Cycle Club and their Harleys and Goldwings, the Darktown Brigade fire engine and vintage cars. The presentation of prizes from the parade will take place then along with prizes for the various competitions. Children' s events are a highlight, starting at 9.00am and running through the morning. Competitions will include the Kunikraft best face mask; the Berry's BOokshop children' s spring poster competition,
Trustbank colouring competition, the Bucks Drapery best decorated carrot hat; a carrot sculpting competition at Ohakune TV & Electrical; and the best carrot poem at Making Rainbows bookshop. There 's also carrot bobbing at Annah S, a shoppers refund draw, carrot cake making competition at A Place in Time; count the carrots on the truck at Jean City. There will be face painting at Virtuosity, and a 'name the new hot dog (with a carrot flavour) at the Dew Drop Inn. There is also a special draw for a tonne of • Petrochem N-Rich Urea! There will be stalls galore, some from out of town (if they are brave enough to come to town) with knitted toys, clothing, ceramics and art and crafts, and volcanic dust. Bob Norling from Ohakune TV & Electrical will be compere for the day with Kayleen McNaught as his helper. Take a look at the shop windows because they will be vying for the prize for the best dressed one, with prizes sponsored by Montana. To finish the day, Ohakune's King's Theatre will have a matinee movie at 2.30pm.
