Discussions open on service access

Some of the issues surrounding the Ohakune commercial area access were resolved at a meeting Monday last week, according to Waimarino Community Board chairman Colin Webb. The issue came to a head following the board' s discussions on whether the council should be involved in finding a solution (see story, Ruapehu Bulletin, 12 September). He said there was a good attendance at the meeting. "It was really just a matter of getting them to communicate with one another," he said. "We said.to them (retailers), if you really want to use someone else's land for access or parking, for goodness sake go and talk to them and make some arrangements."

He said they decided to organise a further meeting to sort but how to improve the access and to discuss contributions from the various parties. The town planner, who was at the meeting, is to also look into the matter of service access and parking in the Ohakune commercial area, although he told those present that it could be some time before a report was prepared. Mr Webb said he saw a possible long term solution being the purchase of the Telecom service yard with a walk-way through to Goldfinch Street.
