Wristguards recommended for learner boarders
Turoa' s medical clinic statistics for this season show 23 injuries to snow boarders in just one week - an uncomfortably high figure, says Clinic nurse Lyn Davison. She said a learner snow boarder is more likely to injure their wrist than an experienced boarder, as people tend to break a fall with their hands - — a tendency due to the nature of the sport. Turoa is so concerned about learner boarders injuring themselves on their field that they are investigating offering wrist guard hire to people who hire snowboards
from Turoa' s extensive rental range. At the moment the only wrist protection retailers can offer snow boarders is in the form of ski gloves that incorporate wrist guards. However, $200 a pop for a pair of these gloves is a fairly hefty purchase for someone who is learning to snowboard. A cheaper altemative is a wrist guard that can be purchased from a skateboard shop. A skateboard wrist guard extends from your wrist to half way along your forearm and it is designed to be firm enough so that a fall onto your wrists won't ruin your day!
