Wanganui Ski Club hut secure
The Wanganui Ski Club has been assured of its position on Mt Ruapehu for the next 60 years. Club secretary Hugh Gilberd said part of the new licences being brought in by the Department of Conservation for ski clubs on the mountain meant club sites were secure for the next 60 years. He said clubs would now pay rent for their sites whereas in the past they had paid an annual permit fee for the number of bunks in each hut. Part of the rent will cover the proposed new sewerage scheme which will cover all buildings in the lwikau Village, Whaka-
papa Village and a number of Ruapehu Alpine Lift facilities. It is hoped to have the scheme running by 1997. The capital cost of the scheme for ski clubs was estimated to be $35,000 on average plus annual running costs. M r Gilberd said whether the cost to members would rise would have to be investigated at the time. He said the cost to people using the buildings overnight could rise because of the site rental and capital cost of the sewerage scheme. A big plus, however, was the clubs would no longer have to pump out sewerage tanks every two years which cost $2000 a time.
