College pupils at ski work
Every Monday two Ruapehu College sixth formers — Daniel Barton and Alex Lynden — spend the day learning the ropes in the Ohakune ski shop "Fully Turoa". This is part of a work experience programme which gives students the chance to work in a selected industry before they leave school. The students can then decide whether or not they want to work in that industry full time. Daniel and Alex are both keen on pursuing a career within the ski industry, and are enjoying learning about the technical aspects of both the workshop and rental/retail sides of the business. In a thinly-veiled hint that a "field trip" might be overdue, both Daniel and Alex expressed concern that ski industry people don't seem to get enough time on the slopes. Editor's note: Neither do ski publishing people!
