Variety concert farewells Ruapehu College deputy
Despite freezing cold temperatures an enthusiastic audience packed the College hall recently for a variety concert which was organised by the Ruapehu College Cultural group as a farewell gift to Mr Graham Parker as well as to raise some funds for the forthcoming trip to the Nationals in Auckland. From Kura Kaupapa the audience heard a play "The three bears" in te reo Maori, the Ohakune junior and Senior Bi-Lingual units sang a bracket of songs, and the Raetihi Primary School
Cultural group put on a polished action song performance. Josh Williams, supported by Tiau, Peter and Carl Perkins had the crowd right behind him calling responses to his rap style questions "If you like Mr Parker say yes" and others. Waitara High School' s kapa haka group who were being billeted by the College students for the night put on a very slick and sharp group of poi, action songs and haka. On the eve of V J day Mr Lane, the College Principal, made
a presentation to Takihero, the Japanese student who has been in the school for the last six weeks, after which the College group sang a Japanese song. Finally the Ruapehu group presented a variety of songs, poi, haka and huia, in their usual sweet style. It was a very satisfied audience who left the hall after three hours of entertainment by the young people of the community.
