Jubilee footbridge removed

The Jubilee Park footbridge has been removed because it was found to be unsafe, the Ruapehu District Council reports. "To leave the bridge spanning the Mangateitei Stream would have placed users at risk even though the bridge was temporarily closed," said council CEO Cliff Houston. He said the Waimarino Community Board will be addressing a number of options for its replacement at their September meeting; one of which may be a submission to the Council' s 1 996/97 Draft Annual Plan. "The Council regrets any inconvenience caused to users but must eliminate any possible hazardous situation to the public as a first priority," said Mr Houston.
