Drainage expenditure approved

At this months meeting Ruapehu District Councillors approved expenditure for drainage and water supply works to be undertaken during the 1995/96 year. These include the following projects: Whakapapa/lwikau: $250,000 This finance is to carry out sewerage upgrading at both Iwikau (at the Top O' the Bruce) and at Whakapapa Village to avoid sewage overflows on the mountain. Raetihi: $119,000 This finance is required to carry out the first stage of sewer and stormwater reticulation upgrading to avoid overflows into the Raetihi Stream and Makatutu River. Ohakune: $445,000 and $76,000 The sum of $445,000 is required to carry out the following sewerage upgrading: reticulation upgrading ($ 1 50,000) and to upgrade the oxidation pond including the installation of wetlands ($295,000). The sum of $76,000 is made up of $24,000 for upgrading the water supply system (including the installation of an automatic coagulant dosing system in the Ohakune water treatment plant) and $52,000 to carry out an investigation into the upgrading of the reticulation system as well as to carry out water-mains replacement.
