The new Waimarino Health Clinic opened its doors last Monday. The staff were still settling in and sorting things out but things seemed in control and the clinic was a hive of activity.
The out-patient services were in full swing, the physiotherapy department received its first patients on the dot of 8.30am and staff were preparing for the specialist clinics for Tuesday morning. Rowena Kui, the clinics
manager, was presented with a bouquet of flowers from the nursing staff and all other members of the hospital. Peak FM ran their breakfast show from the clinic until about 10am. Activities centre The activities centre
within the clinic was informally opened last Wednesday (9 August) by Vi Eastman who worked at the hospital for 25 years. There were six residerits at the first day in the activities unit, which is run by Kathy Dodds, whom the group all agree is just terrific. Amongst the more traditional occupational type activities such as outings, creative craft making etc Mrs Dodds will help people prepare their own meals, which they can take home and freeze or store for weekend meals. There will be no more meals on wheels at the weekends. All the residents in the activities group said they
look forward to their visits to the unit. Mr and Mrs Mischewski are from Ohakune and Mr
Mischewski said "this sort of thing keeps me going, I will be 96 on Saturday and I think it' s great being here".
Also present, were Mrs Lauene Manson, from Ohura Road, Jean McShane and of course Vi Eastman.
