Girls taught self-defence
Young girls from Waiouru Primary School last week spent a day with self defence instructors Lydia Mabbett and Nerissa Te Paku learning self confidence and techniques available to ward off unwanted or uncomfortable touching. The instructors also spent time at Ohakune and Raetihi Primary schools teaching girls the need to be loud and strong. "Remember to grow up being loud and strong and
confident, which means trusting yourself and looking after yourself," Ms Mabbett told the girls. "You have a right to feel really safe and really special," she said. A two-day self defence course for ladies is being run in Waiouru on Friday 18 August and Monday 21 August with a free creche provided. The course runs from 10am til 3pm and costs $28. Enquiries can be directed through REAP or the Information and Drop-In Centre in Waiouru.
