Noise complaints up

Complaints of noisy neighbours to the Ruapehu District Council were three times the previous year (to June 1995) with 61 cases. Officers have noted that a large number of people thought that music could be played at any level until 1 1 .00pm. "This is not the case under the current law and people need to be aware that stereos need to be kept at a reasonable level during the day time also," said council CEO Cliff Houston. He said the Tevel of reasonableness' is increased during the day and reduced at night for uninterrupted sleep. "It is important to note that if people do not keep their noise down they risk having equipment confiscated."
