Another Mayoral candidate announces intention
Ruapehu District councillor Joe Murphy has announced his intention to stand for mayor of the district at this year's local body elections. His announcement today coincides exactly with VJ Day 50 years ago when he first met the then mayor of the Taumarunui Borough (Mr W 'Bill' Campbell in Taumarunui during the spontaneous celebrations which followed the declaration of surrender by Japan and the
end of WWII on 1 5 August 1945. In advising the Bulletin of his intention to stand for mayor Cr Murphy says that during the 50 years he has resided in the district, he has developed a farm, raised a family of six and been involved in "dozens of various community projects". He says that with his knowledge of the district and council affairs as well as his very real concerns for the future of the district
his contribution (as mayor) would be without equal. "I have a lot to offer both in experience and leadership", he said. "I know the job calls for total dedication which I am prepared to promise".
