Farm run-off ditties Raetihi town water
Raetihi 's water has been severly discoloured in recent weeks due to run-off from horticultural operations just above the intake, reports the council. "As the current system does not have an adequate filtration system it is not possible for it to deal with excessive runoff as part of the treatment process," stated council officers last week. Although the water is discoloured it is being sufficiently chorinated to eliminate bacteriological contamination, stated a council press release. To be on the safe side samples of the water in its current state have been sent for thorough chemical analysis although it is stressed that there is no cause for concern at present, continued the release. The Manawatu- Wanganui Regional Council, as the authority responsible for controlling water catchments has been asked to urgently investigate and take appropriate action regarding the excessive run-off.
