The number of Kiwi Hosts in the Waimarino was boosted significantly last week when more than 170 certificates were handed out to recent graduates. Of these, 120 were accepted on behalf of New Zealand Army personnel serving in Waiouru, by Major Chris Plowright, while another 45 certificates representing Turoa Ski Resort staff were handed to general manager Angus Grimwade. Among other local indi viduals and businesses to receive Kiwi Host certificates were: Murray Swan (Snowbird/Ohakune); Frances Hodgson (Welcome Inn/ Waiouru); SueFoster and Marie RichardsHodge (Collectables/W aiouru); Pedro and Jan Carver (Alpine Property Management/ Ohakune); Bill Rackham (Alpine Adventure Training Lodge/Raurimu); and Bill
McDonald (Powderhorn Chateau/ Ohakune). The certificates were presented by Ruapehu District deputy mayor Graeme Cosford and local Kiwi Host director David Squires at a function in the Powderhorn Chateau in Ohakune last Tuesday evening. In his report on the success of the Kiwi Host programme, Mr Squires said a total of 232 local people had graduated from the 16 courses run since the beginning of this year, whereas, in the previous three years, only 90 had graduated. Mr Cosford said that in the very competitive world in which we live it was very important to take every opportunity to make the first impression a good and lasting one. He congratulated the graduates and complimented the programme.
