Bus wheel vandalism disturbs
Ohakune Police are disturbed by an incident of vandalism to an Ohakune based Mountain transport company that occurred overnight on 22 July 1995. Police say that the offender loosened and removed three front drive bolts from a bus parked outside a Railway Row residence - one used to transport skiers to and from Turoa Ski Resort. The incident was discovered by the dri ver approximately 2km from the depot' s base, and was fixed on the spot. • Police are investigating the burglary of the Raetihi Fire Station sometime between 20-25 July 1995. Offenders entered via a louvre window and removed a large quantity of property, including torches taken from the station' s fire engines and a first aid kit. Enquiries are continuing. • Police recovered a Toyota Hilux utility that had earlier been taken from outside an Ohakune Junction address on 22 July 1 995 . The vehicle was left locked and parked in a carport, with offenders removing the vehicle overnight. No property was removed from the vehicle. • On the afternoon of Wednesday 26 July 1995, a 13-year old Wanganui youth
was reported missing from the Wanganui area. During the early evening Ohakune Police were advised that the youth had been seen riding northwards in the Horopito area. The youth was located in National Park, safe and well. He was later returned to his parents in Wanganui. • In the early hours of 27 July 1995, Police were called to a burglary of the Hot Lava Nightclub at the Ohakune Junction. Due to enquiries an 1 8-year old local mother has been charged with burglary. She will appear in the Ohakune District Court this month. Further charges are pending. • Ohakune Police arrested a 36-year old male for the unlawful taking of a Ford Cortina motor vehicle. Police located the vehicle on the Parapara Highway on Friday evening. The vehicle had been stolen from Wellington city earlier in the day. • Saturday 29 July, Ohakune Police with outside Police assistance, completed numerous hotel checks in the Ohakune area. Several Ohakune youths were warned for underage drinking. No charges were laid. • Ohakune Police attended a burglary of a King Street, Raetihi, address on Sunday Turn to Page 8

30 July. Numerous tools and gardening equipment were stolen. • Ohakune Police over the weekend warned numerous road users for failing to restrain children correctly in motor vehicles. Police said they listened to numerous excuses for children being unrestrained. Police advise that in future such ignorance will not be tolerated. Motorists face fines of $75 for failing to adequately restrain children. • During the early hours of Monday 3 1 July, Police were called to a prowler in and around the Railway Row area. Police are continuing a line of enquiry. • Between 23-28 July 1995, offenders broke intd the boiler room of Tirorangi Marae, Whangaehu Valley Road, Ohakune, for the fourth time in recent months and removed the hot water cylinder. Damage estimated at $860 was caused by offenders removing the cylinder which was valued at a further $1500. Police would like to hear from anyone who may have information about the latest incident. • A wallet was stolen from a patron at the Powderkeg Inn between 10-1 1.30pm on Saturday 29 July. The wallet which contained cash and credit cards was removed from a handbag that was left unattended for a short time. • Between 29-30 July, offenders removed two large protection cages covering floodlights used at the Ohakune Club to illuminate signage located at the beginning of the
driveway. Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked contact the Ohakune Police Station. • Police are investigating the theft of a wallet from a local retail store sometime on Sunday 30 July. The wallet contained a small amount of cash, credit cards and documents. • Police attended two separate incidents of family violence over the weekend. As a result, two people were arrested and will be appearing before the Ohakune District Court on Thursday 10 August to face charges. • As a result of an ongoing drink-driving campaign, Ohakune Police apprehended a local man for driving with excess breath alcohol. He will be appearing before the Ohakune District Court on 10 August. • During the evening of 29 July, persons unknown deliberately backed into a red Mazda motor vehicle parked overnight on Mangawhero Terrace, causing extensive damage to the rear of the vehicle. The offenders then drove off. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact the Ohakune Police Station.
