Wanganui music competitions attended
Three of Ann Greenwood' s piano pupils, Nicola Teary, and Steven and Matthew Bishop took part in the Wanganui competitions held at Wanganui Girls College last week. The vocal section attracted a small but appreciative audience, good singfng, clear diction, clever miming and excellent presentation was seen from all competitors who obviously enjoyed performing on Saturday 1 July. Sundays instrumental classes included: piano, electronic organ and keyboard, woodwind (mainly flute), strings and brass. This variety of instruments made an interesting day for the audience and competitors alike. "The widening of musical knowledge and appreciation of music is important and the real benefit of attending or competing in competitions such as these," said music tutor Anne Greenwood. The Waimarino students played pieces which they will
present for the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) exams in August. Performing their exam pieces in public and being given a written evaluation has helped in preparing for the exams. Steven was placed second in the JS Bach class, 1 1 and under 13; Matthew gained third place in piano solo no previous first place, and was commended in the 'own selection' in the 13 and under 15 age group; Nicola acquitted herself well though not placed in the 1 1 and under 13 classes.
