Spreading the word to Auckland
"If you tell them, they will come". So says recent retumee to Ohakune, John Bache. "Many visitors have the false impression that there isn't much to do here apart from skiing. Now you and I know that there' s plenty happening, but if visitors aren't told about an event how are they to know any better?" he
believes. John is doing daily reports on Auckland radio station, 95 bFM, and is keen to hear from anyone planning an event in the region. If it' s appropriate, he' 11 then give them a free plug on air. "bFM has about 25,000 listeners in the greater Auckland area. Many of those listeners, if they haven't been here before, are potential visitors to the Ruapehu region. I'd like to tell those people what's going to be happening down here, so they're aware of a few more options before they arrive." John has lived away from the area for nine years and is glad to be back. "In that time I've been to university and spent six years in the corporate sector. Now just seemed like a great time to move back. I like the pace of life here, and there' s a real sense of vitality that comes fforn living in the shadow of a volcano. "Wellington' s a great city, but living up here sure beats catching a bus to work every day with 30 other grey-faced commuters." If you want to see some Aucklanders at your event, John can be reached on 025 491 849.
