Vandal's parents may go to court

Taking parents of young vandals to the Small Claims Court is an approach to the problem that is being tried in the Helensville area which may be of interest to Waimarino victims of this crime. A local community trust in that area is testing the option in response to thousands of dollars worth of damage there, done by a hard-core of offenders who they believe are not influenced much by police action. The main aim of the trust' s action is not to "drag money from parents" but to make parents, who "don't care two hoots", accountable and aware of their obligations. If a test case currently being heard is successful, more will follow in that area, it is reported.
