Twenty sheep mauled by single dog
Twenty dead and another 30 badly maimed is the latest carnage created by just one roaming dog last week, the Ruapehu District Council dog control officer Lyall McGill reports: The injuries were consistent with an attack on sheep on a neighbour's property, he said. "We have to get the message across to people — dogs should always be tied up at night no matter what, and if you're going out during the day they must be tied up or kennelled." "Y ou must know where your dog is." He said every dog has the potential to kill stock. "If you love your animal you have to take responsibility for it," urged Mr McGill. He said once a dog had attacked any kind of stock they invariably do so again. The loss to this farmer was severn in that the animals were his future breeding ewes — capital stock. Enquiries are continuing.
