Good season for pony club
Waimarino Pony Club riders have ended their season with many-successes in various competitions. They achieved placings at the North Island Show Jumping championships in Cambridge. The club's team performed well at the Timberlands Pony Club North Island Teams Event in Tokoroa which included dressage, cross country and show jumping. At the New Zealand Zone Dressage Championships in Hamilton, three Waimarino riders competed in the King Country team. "This is a most intricate and beautiful aspect of equestrian sport as it requires a lot of patience and training of horse and rider," said publicity officer Patty Smith. Waimarino provided two of the three members of the King Country team for the New Zealand Pony Club horse trials championships in Gisborne. The club has several adults, instructors and parents, who commit a lot of time instructing children. "The generous financial support that the local public and businesses have given for fund raising has been very much appreciated as it has enabled the riders to compete at these venues," said Mrs Smith. For more fund raising, a large trailer of native firewood is being raffled at present and lamingtons are being sold, with orders being taken from committee members. New committee members are: patron Alan Bowater, district commissioner Nicky Williams, secretary Lyn Godfrey, treasurer Adrian Maru, publicity Patty Smith, event secretary Eileen Gotlieb, chief instructor Evelyn Cooper.
