Regional rates up for Ruapehu

For the fifth year in succession the ManawatuWanganui Regional Council has reduced its general rate in the dollar, but because of valuation changes

Ruapehu ratepayers will pay more this year. The council formally approved its 1 995/96 annualplan and budget at its meeting last week, with changes made

to the plan after considering 71 submissions received. The general rate is calculated on individual properties according to the rate

equalised capital value. Rates for the 1995-96 financial year will be $61.71 per $100,000 equalised capital value, down from $69.49 struck for the 1994-

95 financial year. This represents a nil increase in general funding for the whole region but will result, because of valuation changes, in deereases in yield from Palmerston North City, Horowhenua and Rangitikei districts but increases in Manawatu, Ruapehu, Tararua and Wanganui districts.
