Family farm sells for $1m

A100-year-old family farm sold for a little over one million dol lars after an auction on Friday at the Waimarino Golf Club. The 168-hectare farm on Pakihi Road, belonging to the Proude family, which included large areas of potential market gardening land, was bought by Ohakune market gardener Ron Frew by negotiation after the auction.

The price realised was about what the vendors wanted according to Wrightson Real Estate manager Clive Gibbard. He said it reflected well on the state of the market. The price was about double its last government valuation of 1993. A crowd of about 70 bidders, family supporters, and onlookers attended the auction with about six people bidding for the property.
