Raetihi posts a good win

Raetihi posted a good win this week against Huia through better determined, attacking play. From the kick-off Raetihi was up for the ball and in more control than they have been in more recent weeks. In the first five minutes Raetihi was awarded a penalty and Thomas Waara attempted to kick for goal — the kick going astray. Huia came back in defensive mode with their forwards working well to ward off Raetihi and hold them at bay. The quick skills of Terry Taumata,. No 1 1 for Raetihi, swooped on a loose ball, 10 to 15 minutes into the game. He kicked well in mid field, then using fast kick and tap skills went over for a great try just five metres left of the post. W aara' s kick for conversion failed, the score 5-0. Another penalty went to Raetihi five to 10 minutes later, this time Waara' s kick for goal was successful, the score 8-0. Huia defended well at all times, but 'off side' play, going in over the top and holding back with the ball, preventing Raetihi from getting it out from a Huia tackle, resulted in a penalty. Raetihi put points on the board twice from this type of play, Thomas Waara kicking both goals. This gave Raetihi a 14-0 lead. Raetihi was also off-side a couple of times, Huia choose to kick and run with one penalty in order to bring the ball nearer their goal. Another penalty to Huia just before half time put. points on the board the score 14-3.

Five minutes into the second half Waara put points on the board again, the score being 17-3, with a penalty to Raetihi. Nopera Pine ran away for a great try that was set up from the kick-off by great determination play and drive by Ronnie Jensen, No 4 for Raetihi and there in support Mathew Hepua. The try was converted by Waara, the score 24-3. The backs, though a tad sluggish at times, got some clean ball. Waara for example passed well as did Fraser Edwards. Rau Rangihua dropped such a pass, the all time winger' s nightmare. Nopera Pine had another notch under his belt when he went away to score his second try, not converted the core then 29-3. Huia fought back in the 30th minute and a loose ball saw them score a try by their winger, No 14, Boss Armstrong. Unfortunately, Dean Chase No 10, was unable to convert. Fraser Edmonds was "up there" in the game and had. a tremendous run to score his try, converted by Waara, the score 36-8. Moko Wihare, No 7 for Raetihi, played well, always on to the ball, taking a good catch and side stepping he ran brilliantly from 70 metres to score under the goal posts. Thomas Waara converted and this took the final score to 43-8. Player of the day for Raetihi was Moko Wahare, with Nopera Pine and Stu Ngatai close behind in points.
