Victor 5 Company of the 1st Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment held a reunion to mark the 25th anniversary of their deployment to Vietnam in Waiouru over Queen's Birthday weekend. Over 100 ex-servicemen attended the reunion. Counting families, over 200 people participated in acti vities thiat included a service at the Army museum to unveil a memorial dedicated to the four V5 people who lost their lives in Vietnam. The snow in no way cooled the enthusiasm for a shooting session at Taylor Range, although starting the competition involved running a gauntlet of snow balls. The younger army team won the shoot although the V5 team were ahead after the first stage which involved them firing weapons they were familiar with. New Zealand sent over 3000 troops to Vietnam during the war. Thirty five men were killed and around 128 injured.
