Ohakune's post office to move to book shop
Ohakune's present Post Shop is to close and services franchised to Berry's Bookshopin Goldfinch Street, Ohakune. The opening date for the relocated Post Shop is set down for 28 August 1995. The book shop is to provide all current services including a full postal service, CourierPost, motor vehicle registrations, road user charges, BillPay, permit posting and private boxes. NZ Post spokesman Tony Howarth-Dowd said the new service will be monitored and will meet NZ Post standards. He said they will work with bookshop proprietor Frank Broadbent to work out how services will be provided including where the post boxes will be located. Some box holders will also be consulted regarding siting.
Mr Howarth-Dowd said he did not see parking as a major problem, with similar parking available at the bookshop to that currently available at the present Post Shop. Mr Howarth-Dowd said he could not discuss the staffing situation with regard to the changes, saying that was a matter between the staff, New Zealand Post and the union. The delivery service is separate from the Post Shop franchise and a decision is yet to be made on where it will be based, said Mr Howarth-Dowd. However, there would be no changes to delivery services, he said. The future of the current building was in the hands of New Zealand Post Properties Limited, he said.
